Trains There is a pretty decent selection of engines from a number of different countries and eras. Sid meiers railroads running but not visible manual#There are numerous typos in the manual (even more than we typically see in a new release) and the manual errata on the HTML file installed with the game is fairly large. As a side note, I definitely got the impression that this was rushed out. I have no idea if/how long this will last though. Personally, I have put about 20 hours into the game already and I can’t stop playing. It is not destined to be a classic, but it is still a lot of fun to play (and watch) and may serve to introduce the genre to a whole new generation of gamers. In a nutshell, there is very, very little new stuff, a lot of old stuff (some of it with a new twist) and a whole new look. The game as it currently stands will not pose much of a challenge (or any challenge to be exact) to hardened railroading veterans and the simplified game mechanics may prove frustrating to those who are used to (and prefer) the ability to completely micromanage/tweak all aspects of the railroading empire. It is nice that the game settings allow you to configure a game to be as hard or as easy as you want, but 'hard' is a very relative term. I doubt they were intended but unfortunately they are in the product all the same. The mechanics are usually pretty straightforward, but as you play the game for any length of time you will find that there are a lot of idiosyncrasies in the design. The game is easy enough to figure out, especially if you have played any other games in the genre before. ![]() The mismatch in scale can sometimes be distracting all by itself. However the game really has two scales (like setting up a model train set with two different gauges. Stations and industries are likewise beautifully detailed and even the loading and unloading process is detailed and fun to watch. The 3D models are detailed and beautifully animated and I think they look much better (especially when in action) than the models from Railroad Tycoon III. The first impression is that the game is really pretty to look at (especially if you have a somewhat beefy system).
